Hello!

Hope you all enjoyed the Easter weekend!

The
recording of our debut album over the last four months has been a very
creative and enjoyable process for all involved. We are feeling really
positive about the results, and very excited about the times that lay
ahead.

We have recorded in various magical locations around
Ireland from Bastardstown to Monkstown (see a slideshow of some of the
photos taken along the way on the myspace page http://www.myspace.com/odimusic).

We are now at the stage of adding the musical "hundreds and thousands" to the 14 songs we have recorded!

During
the Easter week we had the great pleausure of working with a musical
hero of ours, Colm MacConlomaire of The Frames / Swell Season, on
string arrangements for four of the album tracks.

The time spent
with Colm has really enabled us to explore further the songs and add
another dimension to the overall sound of the album. A great talent and
a true gent! Visit Colm's Myspace page at
www.myspace.com/theharescorner

With only a few bits an bobs
left to do, the debut ODi album will be mixed and mastered by the end
of April! Exciting times ahead!

Full details of release plans to follow but at the mo we are heading for a September Album Release in Ireland with first
single in June! (all releases will be available worldwide via itunes and our new website which is in the pipeline!)

So now to the hard bit! Choosing the album tracks and running order, oh and the
small matter of an Album title!....watch this space!

Gigs, gigs, gigs!

We
are adding new dates to the myspace listings constantly so keep your
eyes peeled! these are the dates we have confirmed so far!

APRIL

23rd Cleere's Kilkenny One Take Sessions

MAY

3rd Hook Lighthouse Wexford Maritime Matters Festival

15th Cypress Avenue Cork Supporting The 4 of Us

20th Brudenell Social Club Leeds Supporting Portico Quartet

JUNE

5th Furey's Sligo

7th Mannions Balla

9th Kenneys Lahinch White Horse Sessions

10th De Barra's Clonakilty Sitting Room Sessions

12th The Blackbird Ballycotton

14th Whelans (Upstairs) Dublin

19th McCarthy's Dingle

And on other exciting news! A Hot Chocolate debate!

No, not the band but a delivery of a small brown package that was received at ODi HQ this
morning, after entering a competition to win a years supply of Dark Hot Chocolate, yours truly actually won! Although, we are currently
debating if 6 plastic tubs does actually equal a years supply... not sure on that one, we
will let you know after a year on the road and a cuppa every night
before lights out!! Rock n Roll eh!? Do come along, free hot chocolate for everyone!!!

Bye for now!

Odi x

P.S. Check out the new animated video below for 'Crawl' created by Tutu Benson.

wrote this in 2000, at age 21....

The first Irish soil I stepped on was that of County Clare. I arrived at the Shannon Airport on September 4th, 1999, exhausted after an overnight flight. Honestly, the first day in my jet-lagged fog I asked myself what I had done. Had I been right to leave my comfortable American existence to experience an unknown Ireland?

I close my eyes and I can still feel the wind, almost taste it coming off Galway Bay. I'm standing just outside the ring fort I later learned to be called Cathair Dhun Iorais, or the Fort of Irghus. At Black Head you follow the continuous stone wall up the hill hiking over limestone, and hiking and hiking and resting and hiking until the Fort of Irghus comes into view. A fox catches my eye, running ahead and disappearing behind the rocks only to reappear when I come over another rise. When I reach the ring fort I am singing because I believe myself to be alone. I see an unlikely color for the Burren, the red of a sweatshirt, in my peripheral vision. A farmer and his son come into my line of vision and here I stand hoping my voice was lost on the wind. I have many talents, singing...probably not one of them. They don't mention my song, only that they thought they were the only ones for miles around. I am warned that rain is coming on. In Ireland? Who would have guessed. I thank them and absorb my surroundings for a few moments longer. I make the hike down to the coast road to where my bike is stashed behind the stone walls that line it. I bike back down into Ballyvaughan just barely beating the rain clouds. I'm thirsty and ravenous. In Hylands Sonya serves me lunch and a cup of tea. It isn't long before I've finished my meal. I head upstairs to where Barry, the boyfriend who serves drinks on weekends, is sleeping, still sleeping! He wearily lets me in as I tell him about my morning, the morning he's slept away I tease. Ah no, I've had my share of sleeping in. This is the man I'd hoped I'd be coming back to in the summer. See you in the summer. The lad that never wrote once I left. And it's for the best because when I return to Ireland, will be for Ireland itself!

Hylands: the scheduled storyteller was never there when he was expected but I found plenty of willing substitutes. There was the man who introduced himself as "Michael, like the angel." There was Owen with a group of Dublin architecture students, on a weeklong study of the Burren. What I remember of Owen, he was an extremely nice young man who unfortunately spilled a pint on my lap. But no worries, Owen. You are forgiven.

The staff of Hylands became quite familiar to me as friends and as subjects of my work at the Burren College of Art. I'd surprise Jo and Gary with my camera in the kitchen. I never was quick enough to get Jo before she turned away. I do have a lovely photograph of her hiding behind a tea towel. Gary was a bit more agreeable, just a bit. It was Louise, the prep cook, who was my most willing subject and the girl that I took with me to Galway to take photographs I intended to use as reference for a painting. I drew Bernie while she washed up and she rewarded me with a cup of tea with more sugar than I'd usually take. Didn't tell her though 'cause it was such a nice gesture.

I swore I'd walk on Irish soil once again and I wrote this sentiment in my journal. I wrote it in Greene's surrounded by a live traditional music session. I wrote it on my walks in the hills and along the famine roads. I wrote it in accounts of the day scribbled before I rested my head in the drafty farmhouse that sheltered me those four months that Ballyvaughan was home. I even wrote it when I had the flu and was too tired to do much of anything but heat up water for Lemsip.

Postscript: and I did walk on that limestone soil of the Burren and the cobblestones of aul Dublin city again. Will do again too!

I've neglected this blog for over a month now, due to overwhelming pressures in the other spheres of my life. Work has been very busy (though not overly so) and I've been spending a lot more time on my Doctorate. For this of you who don't know yet, I'm approximately half way through a doctoral course in Occupational Pychology, and my activity therein has seriously ramped up of late.

And so we come to the reason for this post...

For any blog readers out there who are interested, my online survey is up and running and can be access by clicking here. While you're at it, please feel free to pass on the URL to any friends, family or colleagues you think might like to take part (http://tinyurl.com/6m8k7o).

I'm going to send a summary of my findings to interested participants later in 2009, but you'l need to indicate your email address at the end of the survey to receive the report.

Feel free to send me a message or email if you'd like to learn more about the project. In a nutshell, the WLB literature has largely ignored the experience of employees who a) don't have children or b) are gay/lesbian. My project is seeking to redress this imbalance a little and find out what these employees think about WLB, how they manage their own balance, and how they differ (if at all) from their straight employees and those with children.

The survey is going to inform some qualitative research I'm going to undertake later in the year. The bottom line? Everyone is welcome to participate - the more the merrier.

And I thank you in advance for your time.

My "very good friend", Irish Robinson has had her achievements recognised again. Stonewall has awarded her their 'Bigot of the Year' award for 2008.

No doubt this is in recognition for her sterling work in advancing the acceptance of gays and lesbians in Northern Ireland (where she is minister for health in the non-functioning Mickey Mouse executive).

No. Not really.

It's because she has a record of blatant homophobia and, despite her position as an elected representative, sees fit to spout gibberish about "curing homosexuals".

Yes, I've blogged about this nut-job before. Oh, and here. Sorry for the repetition. I'm just incredibly angry about the lack of an sort of apology, or the fact that there was little or no censure from her government.

Possibly because she's married to the First Minister, Peter Robinson (only in Northern Ireland...).

The BBC broadcast the DUP's annual conference this year, where her husband got a few chuckles from the dinosaurs in attendence when he mentioned her lack of political correctness (see his speech here). It's not about being PC. It's about respecting people and treating everyone equally. And (ideally) it should be about keeping your personal religious views separate from work... especially when religion has had such a negative impact on society, as in Norn Iron.

I'm sure the Stonewall award will find pride of place on her mantlepiece.

Reviewer: Dan Hobson (Sept 2008)

Fresh from a thirty date Irish tour the ultra hard-working
Wexford woman ODi is back in England for more gigs in aid of her
latest release A Superman. Playing traditionally styled folk songs in a
modern, cutting-edge way (I like that bit) ODi provides the listener with heartfelt,
soulful songs that are perfect for winding down to.

The EP starts with title track A Superman and sets the mood
brilliantly. With excellent chord progressions, perfectly sung vocal patterns
and a bold string section this track builds flawlessly to its ultimate climax.
With similarities to Dido and perhaps Sheryl Crow I'd say that anybody
into mellow acoustic music will lap up ODi. Up next What You Deserve
demonstrates how well these musicians gel together. With two beautiful guitar
riffs playing and more perfectly sung vocals this track has some great
melodies, a sensual vibe and is my standout on the EP. Tears & Wine
is a poignant song that appears to be about ending a doomed relationship and
drinking to forget about it. Lyrics such as like the pictures she paints, he
left her black and blue show ODi at her most poetic. A Superman
finishes with another live radio session of the slightly surreal Leaving My
Love In New York. Summoning imagery of Autumnal city streets this is a
smooth outro to an excellent CD.

There's a lot of acoustic artists out there at the minute, but ODi
just seems to have that certain something that will hopefully make her stand
out from the crowd. Worth a listen! ………..www.sheffieldmusic.com

More can be seen at www.myspace.com/odimusic

So before we head off onto that ‘minty highway’ we’ll be
saying our farewells and yeehaws at Verve this Sunday night, do come down and
join in, it’ll be mad like!! (Just practicing my local slang before mixing with
the natives again, so there’ll be no more ‘you alright love’ but more like
‘how’s it goin’ and saying ‘like’, a lot!) Also, our favourite Leeds band ‘Hope & Social’ (www.hopeandsocial.com) will be headlining and
sending us on our merry way to the ‘land without broadband’ so if you don’t
hear from us for a while…

....is not the title of the next ODi song (although now you mention
it...) but the name of the funniest T.V. program I've seen in a long
time! So last week I was over in Roma for a few days at one of my best
friend's wedding and whilst nursing a (very over indulged in red wine,
white wine and any other coloured wine left on the table) sore head the
next day I flicked on the telly and was engrossed by what I think may
have been Italian karyoke (apologies to any Italian popstars on the
show if this was not the case) and really badly mimed, even I noticed
(I grew up thinking Top Of The Pops was live, ok)! For extra comedy
factor the audience were also on stage singing (and miming) with the
contestants who consisted of what looked like the singer's aunts,
uncles, grannies and other various extended family members plus 2
extremely short-skirted cousins with cowboy hats and boots! I have no
idea what was going on but it was the best cure for a sore head I've
ever had, just brilliant! Has anyone else seen this or was I just
having another Father Dougal moment??

Right, so whats going on back in the real world then?
Well the Eps been selling nicely, thanks to everyone whose downloaded
it, bought it, burnt it (naughty naughty, but ok, so long as you
promise to come to a gig the next time) or sat on it. Cheers! If you
dont know what the hec Im on about then check out the front page again
and press a few buttons on the new frustratingly annoying player,
you'll eventually get to it! Needless to say, but Im going to anyway,
you can get it at the following gigs at bargain prices and even more so
if you're good at haggling at which Im not (my haggling skills were
taught to me at a very young age from watching 'The Life Of Brian' so
you'll probably end up getting one for free).

3 Oct 2008

Electric Avenue (supporting Owen Brady) Waterford

4 Oct 2008

The Sugar Club (Supporting Owen Brady) Dublin

7 Oct 2008

Halo (E-mail me for guest-list passes) London

11 Oct 2008

House Concerts York (www.houseconcertsyork.co.uk)

If
for some reason you cant make it to any of the above then there's a few
other things that you can do which would make our life a little bit
easier and our bums a little less sore from sitting on them all day!
